How Veridex handles your data

Veridex is a Chrome extension that turns any company name into a verified, sourced intelligence report — running entirely on your device. This page explains exactly what data the extension reads, where it lives, and what we do (and don't) do with it.

On-device AI. No account. No tracking. No Veridex server.

Veridex uses Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano, so the AI runs on your device — your data is never sent to a cloud AI. Your saved data (history, saved results and exports) stays in your browser. The only thing that leaves your device is a lookup you start: the company name is sent directly to public data sources and search engines, exactly as if you searched them yourself. There is no Veridex server, no account, and no analytics.

Single purpose

Veridex's single purpose is to look up a company by name and country and extract verified, publicly-available business information from free public sources — presenting each value with its source, confidence and timestamp. Every feature serves this purpose. We do not bundle unrelated functionality.

What Veridex does

Searches public sources and the company's official website for the fields you request — only when you start a search.
Uses Chrome's on-device Gemini Nano to plan queries, locate the official site, extract values, and run a final accuracy check — all locally.
Shows every value with its source URL, confidence and timestamp; marks a value "verified" when 2+ independent sources agree.
Never fabricates: if a value can't be confirmed it is omitted, not guessed.
Bulk lookup — process up to 500 companies from an Excel/CSV you upload.
Exports to Excel, CSV, JSON, Markdown or a branded PDF, saved locally so you can re-download them.
Optionally monitors companies you choose to Watch and notifies you when a tracked value changes.

What Veridex does not do

Collect, transmit, or store any of your data on a server — there is no Veridex backend.
Use cloud AI providers (no OpenAI, no Google AI Studio, no Groq) — only Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano runs the AI, on your device.
Track you across the web or observe your browsing — Veridex only fetches the public sources needed for a lookup you start.
Sell, share, license, or transfer user data to any third party.
Use user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
Use user data for advertising, retargeting, or any purpose unrelated to the single purpose above.
Allow human review of user content (no employee, contractor, or third party can see your local data).

Limited Use of user data

Use of information received from Chrome Web Store, as well as data derived from such information, will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

In plain English: Veridex stores your data only on your device to deliver the in-product features described above. It is never transferred to anyone (including us — there is no "us" with a server), never used for ads, and never reviewed by a human. The only data that leaves your device are the search requests sent directly to the public data sources and search engines you look up (the same request you would make by visiting those sites yourself).

What data is stored locally

Everything Veridex stores lives in your browser on your device (IndexedDB and chrome.storage). It is never synced, uploaded, or transmitted. The table below covers the main stores.

favorites	Results you starred for quick access.
results	The extracted fields and their provenance for results you saved.
searchCache	Recent results, cached locally for fast repeat searches (clearly labelled with their age; configurable lifetime).
downloads	Copies of files you exported, so you can re-download them from History → Downloads.
watches / watchEvents	Companies you chose to monitor and the change events detected for them.
bulkJob / bulkRows	The current bulk run and its per-company rows, so progress survives closing the panel.
pages	A short-lived cache of fetched public pages so a search doesn't re-download the same source.
settings	Your preferences and any optional API keys you add (kept locally, used only with that provider).

Remove everything any time: clear the extension's data, or remove Veridex via chrome://extensions to wipe all locally-stored data.

Permissions & why we need them

Each permission below is the narrowest viable choice for the feature it enables. We do not request permissions we don't use.

storage	Save your history, saved results, watch list, cache and settings locally so the tool works without any cloud sync.
unlimitedStorage	Keep larger locally-stored items (saved results, exported files, cached pages) without hitting the default quota.
sidePanel	The entire Veridex app runs in the Chrome side panel; clicking the toolbar icon opens it.
alarms	Schedule background re-checks for companies you choose to Watch (monitoring/alerts).
notifications	Notify you when a value you're monitoring for a watched company changes.
offscreen	Run large bulk lookups and scheduled monitoring, and parse fetched HTML, so processing continues even when the side panel is closed.
host: `<all_urls>`	Fetch publicly-available company information directly from company websites and public data sources. Because you can research any company, the relevant sites aren't known in advance, so access to arbitrary public URLs is required. Veridex only reads public pages to extract the fields you ask for; it never injects scripts into, modifies, or tracks your normal browsing.

Network calls

When you start a search, Veridex makes the following network calls. Everything else is on-device:

Web search engines — to discover which public pages to read, Veridex sends the company name to search engines (DuckDuckGo, Bing, Mojeek) and Google News. These queries go directly from your browser to those engines.
Public data sources — company websites and free public databases such as Wikipedia, Wikidata, GLEIF, SEC EDGAR, Companies House (UK), SIRENE (France), openFDA, ClinicalTrials.gov, PubMed, OpenAlex, GitHub, CoinGecko, FDIC and Open Food Facts. Requests go directly from your browser to those services — no Veridex server sits in the middle.
Optional stock / registry APIs — only if you add your own Finnhub, FMP or UK Companies House key; the key is sent only to that provider.

There is no telemetry, no crash reporting, no analytics endpoint, and no cloud LLM endpoint. The Gemini Nano model runs on your device through Chrome's built-in AI.

Data retention & deletion

Veridex keeps your data on your device for as long as the extension is installed. You can wipe it any time:

In-app — delete individual items (history, saved results, downloads, watches) or clear the cache from Settings.
Remove Veridex — chrome://extensions → remove Veridex. This wipes everything Veridex stored locally.

Because there is no server, there is no separate copy of your data for us to delete, and no server-side request to file. Local removal is total.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the extension gains new permissions, new on-device data flows, or new features. The Effective date at the top reflects the most recent revision.

We don't operate a server — there's no support ticket system, no data-export endpoint, and no account to suspend. Because all data stays on your device, we have no copy to give you on request and nothing to delete server-side. Use chrome://extensions → remove Veridex to wipe everything locally.
